Since 2016, Athena Sailing, an independently run sailing program, has inspired and developed women in the sport of sailing. The program introduces and empowers women to be confident in the competitive, often male dominated sport. Showcasing the physical and mental strength of women, in pushing their boundaries both within themselves and within a team.
The sport of sailing is one of few sports where women are able to compete against men on a level playing field, where the tools are the same and the only difference is strength and experience, which is gained by training, development, teamwork and persistence. Athena Sailing works on these areas to get results.
It has been widely published that women are still struggling to reach the top positions in politics, business and society at large and sport is no exception. Commercially women are continuing to demonstrate that they are hugely marketable and add massive credibility to potential partners and sponsors. Athena Sailing works to acknowledge the ever-inspiring abilities, achievements and dynamics that women bring to the sport of sailing. In January 2018, Athena Sailing competed in the World Championships in Hobart.
